Willow Creek Marsh
Map SatelliteLying above the junction of Willow Creek and the Russian River, this marsh is less diverse than the Duncans Mills Marsh. Dominates in the marsh include cattail, Typha latifolia, and tules, Scirpus acutus.
Along the swiftly moving Willow Creek, which borders the marsh, is a dense riparian community with willow, Salix lasiolepis, and red alder, Alnus rubra. This marsh is another locality for the unusual occurrence of both the coastal rush, Juncus effusus var. brunneus, and the inland rush, Juncus effusus var. pacificus, appearing together.
Animal life is typical of the area.
Integrity: There has been siltation due to improper logging practices upstream, and the borders of the marsh are disturbed by cattle. However, most of the marsh is in good condition.
