Map Satellite This area is located along the Feather River in the Sutter Bypass and contains an extensive and excellent stand of the now uncommon riparian community of the Sacramento Valley. Plants found here include thickets of sandbar and yellow willow, Salix sessilifolia and Salix lasiandra in lower portions, black willow, Salix nigra, and cottonwood, Populus fremontii, slightly higher, and in the uplands valley oak, Quercus lobata, and sycamore, Platanus racemosa. The canopy of large, mature trees provides a niche for the shade-tolerant understory, with box elder, Acer negundo, blue elderberry, Sambucus mexicana, white alder, Alnus rhombifolia, Oregon ash, Fraxinus latifolia, and wild grape, Vitis californica, among others. This riparian habitat provides excellent cover for a variety of animals and supports one of the most diverse breeding-bird populations in the State. Integrity: There is a levee along the Feather River, and agricultural lands are adjacent to the area. Use: Private October 1976
