Pine Creek Oak Woodland

Map     Satellite

In the low hills rising a few kilometers to the west of the Sacramento River is this excellent stand of the oak woodland representative of the vegetation that at one time covered much of the region. The dominant species is the blue oak, Quercus douglasii.

There is some manzanita, Arctostaphylos sp., but most of the understory is grassland composed of Vulpia octoflora and the non-native Vulpia myuros var. hirsuta, as well as a number of other exotic grasses.

Integrity: The area is grazed but not to the detriment of the vegetation.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
