Raglin Ridge Cypress Stand

Map     Satellite

This area supports an excellent example of old-growth cypress without a severe fire history. Here, too, in close conjunction are soils derived from Mesozoic ultrabasics, predominantly serpentine and sedimentaries, primarily pre-Cretaceous, with the vegetation neatly reflecting the soil types. The dominant tree on the serpentine is the MacNab cypress, Cupressus macnabiana; on the sedimentaries, the knobcone pine, Pinus attenuata.

The serpentine chaparral includes leather oak, Quercus durata, Ceanothus jepsonii, and silk-tassel bush, Garrya congdonii. Chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, whiteleaf manzanita, Arctostaphylos viscida, and buck brush, Ceanothus cuneatus, are the dominants in the chaparral on the sedimentary-derived soils.

Integrity: Virtually undisturbed
