Blue Ridge Area
Map SatelliteSeveral plant communities occur in this area. Chaparral, with some chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, but mostly Arctostaphylos sp. and Ceanothus sp., grades in the higher elevation to an open pine forest with Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, the dominant.
Animal life is abundant. Among the more noteworthy species are black bear, Ursus americanus, pileated woodpecker, Dryocopus pileatus, golden eagle, Aquila chrysaetos, and blue grouse, Dendragapus obscurus. An occasional California condor, Gymnogyps californianus, is sighted in the area.
Integrity: There is an access road, and a microwave station is located atop the ridge; however, elsewhere the vegetation is virtually undisturbed.
Use: Research, educational, observational. Some private.
