Granite Creek Natural Area

Map     Satellite

This area consists primarily of alpine meadows and granitic barrens, with scattered lakes and ponds. There are excellent stands of whitebark pine, Pinus albicaulis, which here is near its southern limit in the Sierra.

In the lower elevations there is a mixed conifer forest, with the whitebark pine stands intermingling with lodgepole pines, Pinus contorta ssp. murrayana.

Integrity: The area is virtually undisturbed.

Use: Research.
