Mc Namee's Cave

Map     Satellite

Located on a steep, west-facing slope above the Stanislaus River, this cave is one of several in the Paleozoic limestone-dolomite belt in the area.

The uncommon Melones harvestman, Banksula melones, is found in the cave. A large bat colony (Mexican freetail, Tadarida mexicana, or little brown, Myotis lucifugus) inhabits the cave.

Vegetation on the slopes consists of a chaparral community.

Integrity: The cave is virtually undisturbed; however, there is mining nearby that may damage or destroy it.

Use: Private
