Conejo Grade

Map     Satellite

Much of the area is precipitous, rocky slopes with a sparse but interesting plant cover.  The vegetation type is coastal sage scrub, with Artemisia californica the dominant shrub, and the exotic Avena fatua the dominant grass.

Two rare species are found on these slopes, Dudleya parva and Eriogonum crocatum.  This is the type locality for the latter.  Dudleya lanceolata also occurs in pockets of soil, as does the xerophilous fern, Argyrochosma jonesii.

The rocky slopes are pyroclastics of the Conejo volcanics.

Integrity:  A highway bordering the area has disturbed the lower portions and there is a County Park opposite a part of this area.  However, it remains relatively undisturbed.
