Ormond Beach, South

MAP     Satellite

At the southern end of Ormond Beach, behind the low dune backing the strand, are a small pond and a small salt marsh.  Vegetation in the latter is typical of the southern coastal marshes, with such species as Distichlis spicata and Salicornia sp. present.

The dune area is sparsely vegetated.

A number of waterfowl frequent the marsh, including the California least tern, Sterna albifrons browni, which occurs here regularly.

Integrity:  The beach vegetation is highly disturbed and the salt marsh relatively disturbed.

Use:  Research, educational, observational, on public portions.  The marsh areas are private.
