Park Canyon - San Guillermo Woodland
Map SatelliteIn this steep and rugged area, dissected by numerous intermittent watercourses, several communities are found, often in a mosaic pattern.
On the highlands the dominant communities are chaparral and coniferous forest. In the forest the major elements are ponderosa and Jeffrey pines, Pinus ponderosa and Pinus jeffreyi, with big-cone Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga macrocarpa. The chaparral includes mountain mahogany, Cercocarpus betuloides, scrub oak, Quercus sp., and Ceanothus leucodermis. Canyon oak, Quercus chrysolepis, and pinyon, Pinus monophylla, are found in the area.
A small portion of the area is in grassland.
There is an abundant and typical fauna. The area is used as a foraging ground by the endangered California condor, Gymnoqyps californianus.
Integrity: Most of the area is virtually undisturbed.
Use: Research, educational, observational, light recreation.
