Tapo Canyon

In this area is the type locality of the Tapo Ranch fauna.  This fauna, which occurs in the Sespe Formation, dates from the late Eocene.  Among the mammalian fossils found here are lemurs, doglike carnivores, Tapocyon and Miacis, primitive opossums, tapirs and "deerlets" as well as numerous rodents.

Integrity:  The area has been quarried but fossils are still present.
