Solano Lake
Map SatelliteAlong the banks of Putah Creek, from the artificial Lake Solano, several kilometers upstream is an example of a riparian forest uncommon in Solano and Yolo counties. Here the woodland includes cottonwood, Populus fremontii, valley oak, Quercus lobata, Oregon ash, Fraxinus latifolia, Dutchman's pipe, Aristolochia californica, and elderberry, Sambucus mexicana.
It is rich in animal life, particularly in the number of birds. Among the more noteworthy resident birds are wood duck, Aix sponsa, and fulvous tree duck, Dendrocygna bicolor.
Integrity: The area is used for recreation and along the north bank, which is in poorer condition than the south, there is a narrow strip of undisturbed woodland, with the area further inland heavily disturbed.
Use: Research, educational, observational, recreational. Portions, private.
