Yolo Alkaline Flats

This site is one of the finest, undisturbed remnants of alkaline vegetation in the Sacramento Valley.

A variety of interesting species occurs here, including Puccinellia nuttalliana, Puccinellia simplex, Salicornia subterminalis, Suaeda calceoliformis, Suaeda moquinii, Frankenia salina, Distichlis spicata, and the rare Cordylanthus palmatus. The Salicornia occurs in only one other known site in the Valley.

Other species present include Lasthenia glabrata, Lasthenia fremontii, Spergularia macrotheca var. leucantha, Astragalus tener, Myosurus minimus, Hemizonia pungens, Hordeum depressum and Deschampsia danthonoides.

The soil is a Pescadero silty clay, saline-alkali.

Integrity: The area has not been cultivated.
