Annual, 4–12" (1–3 dm).
Numerous tack-shaped, dark-colored glands on upper stems; sap milky.
Flowers yellow, the reverse side of each petal is brownish.
Blooming March–May.
Sandy to gravelly soils, washes, flats and open slopes.
Elevation < 6550' (2000 m).
Southwestern California, Great Basin Province (east side of Sierra Nevada), Desert Province.
