The plant's sap is fragrant; new leaves are light greenish-gray, but later turn almost white. Dried resin used as incense.
Flowers yellow.
Blooming March–May.
Coastal scrub, dry stony slopes.
Elevation < 3300' (1000 m).
Southwestern California, Desert Province.
