Flowers yellow or tinged red.

Dry sandy and gravelly slopes and benches; oak, yellow-pine, lodgepole, and fir forests, open bracken meadows.
Elevation 2800–9000' (850–2750 m).
Northwestern California, Cascade Ranges, Sierra Nevada, Central Western California, Southwestern California, Mojave Desert (mountains).
