Flowers are pale yellow (rarely white), fragrant, and open only in sunlight.

Open, dry, sandy soils in grassland, oak woodland, chaparral, desert margins.
Elevation < 5600' (1700 m).
Great Central Valley, Central Western California, Southwestern California, Mojave Desert.
