Annual to low, dense subshrub, 2–5" (5–12 cm).
A compact little plant with velvety, gray-green leaves, which when crushed give off a strong, turpentine-like odor.
Flowers light yellow and often fading reddish.
Blooming March–June, sometimes in winter.
Hard dry soil of flats and ledges, sandy creosote-bush scrub.
Elevation < 3300' (1000 m).
