Flowers generally with a sweet rose-like or ± spicy scent; dark purple to yellow (sometimes white).
Blooming April–May.
Edges of redwood forests and chaparral, generally on moist slopes and canyon banks in alluvial soils.
Elevation 300–6550' (100–2000 m).
Northwestern California, Central Western California.
